The question of the functions of criminal punishment places us at the heart of a dilemma-among others-regarding the choice of criminal policy pursued by the State. While the choice is difficult given the objectives pursued by these various functions, it must nevertheless be said that a compromise toward a paradigm of respect for human rights is the solution best suited to achieving greater redress.
