This study focuses on the woody vegetation of the northern Vienna Woods and examines the structure and species richness of the field copses. The aim of the surveys and analyses is to identify dominant species and species combinations within the study area. The study investigates whether regional patterns can be identified in the field copse areas and whether any distinctive features are evident in the Vienna Woods. Finally, the thesis discusses whether and how the Vienna Woods could be incorporated into the subject ’Biology and Environmental Studies’. During the fieldwork, tree and shrub species were identified across 61 randomly selected field copse sites, and the abundance of each individual species was recorded. In addition, land use, soil moisture and the structure of each survey plot were assessed using a defined scale. A total of 60 different tree and shrub species were recorded in the survey areas. Using the indicator values according to Ellenberg and the software programmes TURBOVEG and TWINSPAN, four groups were identified and distinctive features were highlighted.
