As a military man, Warrant Officer Chuck Luning faces many tough decisions in the closing days of the Vietnam War. Does he return to his family and carve out a piece of the American dream, or does he transition to the new training program that would allow him to take his combat experience and apply it to state-of-the-art helicopters? Fate steals both options from him when he crashes on the wrong side of the border in the jungles of Laos. If Luning is to ever return home, he must use his wits and training to navigate a harrowing odyssey through jungles, mountains, and rivers to reach safety. The Odyssey of Chuck Luning borrows heavily upon the classic tale of Ulysses, and is a companion novella to Exile on Maine Street, which shows Luning’s family coping with his absence back home in Split Rock, Minnesota in 1972.
