This publication presents the current state of knowledge on various topics relating to the sustainable management of forests in the Congo Basin through their role in combating climate change. It provides an up-to-date and evolving picture of the forestry sector in the Congo Basin, particularly that of the Central Basin in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These forests contribute to climate change mitigation. By sequestering carbon and through ’evapotranspiration’, they help to regulate the climate and play a vital role in combating global warming; under certain conditions, they slow down global warming by acting as carbon sinks. Initiatives such as the creation of carbon sinks through reforestation help to prevent global warming. This publication focuses on the following questions: - How can forests be managed sustainably and climate change combated? - How can sustainable forest management be promoted in the forested states of the Congo Basin? - Are these the Congolese forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo?
