In der Forschung ist die Bedeutung der Begegnung zwischen Paul Celan und Martin Heidegger im Sommer 1967 längst konstatiert worden. Sie wurde jedoch lediglich im Bereich programmatischer Äußerungen reflektiert. In Gespräche von Text zu Text wird durch Quellenstudien und eingehende Textanalysen nachgewiesen, daß dieser Begegnung auf seiten Celans ein um 1953 einsetzender Prozeß sowohl der Annäherung als auch der Entgegensetzung gegenüber dem Philosophen vorausging. Diese ambivalente Entwicklung wird auch anhand von bisher nicht beachteten Gedichten in ihrer Komplexität vorgeführt. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei das Gedicht 'Engführung'.
