Dynamic analysis is a key field within engineering sciences that encompasses a very wide range of problems. It can be highly complex, depending on whether the problem is linear or non-linear, the velocities involved and the number of unknowns to be determined. It covers aeroelasticity, seismic analysis, acoustics, and the prediction of the behaviour of a structure or system... It has developed so significantly in recent years (with high-performance algorithms and software tools having been available for the past twenty years or so) that it has been divided into several sub-fields, including fast dynamics, fluid-structure interaction (ships, aircraft, helicopter rotors...), the dynamics of flexible multi-jointed systems (the movement of robots, manipulator arms, machine tools, satellite deployment, etc.), identification and model calibration techniques, and seismic analysis.
