Die Ergebnisse dieser Studie sind ziemlich faszinierend, insbesondere was die geschlechtsspezifischen Unterschiede bei kooperativen Unterbrechungen betrifft. Trotz früherer Forschungen von Linguisten wie Edelsky (1981) und Coates (1989) zeigt sich, dass Männer mehr dieser Unterbrechungen initiieren als Frauen, wie James und Clarke (1993:239) betonen. Interessanterweise scheint der Sprachstil einer Person bei diesem Trend eine entscheidende Rolle zu spielen und nicht nur das Geschlecht. Wie wir in den vorangegangenen Abschnitten dieser Studie gesehen haben, verwendet Ross in Gesprächen mit Frauen mehr kooperative Unterbrechungen als Teil seines unterstützenden und kooperativen Sprachverhaltens. Diese Unterbrechungen zeigen sein Interesse, seine Fürsorge und sein Engagement für seine Gesprächspartner.
