A acumulação de metais pesados nos solos, especialmente em ambientes mineiros, é uma preocupação crescente para os investigadores da indústria agrícola. O consumo de vegetais e frutos que contêm metais pesados é uma das principais formas pelas quais esses elementos entram no corpo humano. O presente estudo investigou a concentração de metais pesados: Cu, Zn, Cr, As e Pb no solo, bem como em amostras de frutos recolhidas em locais reabilitados nos arredores de Sierra Rutile, para avaliar os possíveis riscos para a saúde humana através da transferência pela cadeia alimentar. As plantas amostradas apresentaram valores elevados do fator de translocação (TF>1), o que implica que podem ser classificadas como acumuladoras de poluição. Pode-se concluir que as culturas/plantas cultivadas nas terras reabilitadas nos arredores de Sierra Rutile absorvem níveis significativos de alguns metais pesados do solo poluído.
